A small peek

As mental health clinicians: I believe that we are in a position where we must help explore behavior in order to help individuals identify origins of these behaviors. Simply put, I come from a very long family history of alcoholism. I do not believe I am an alcoholic. I do believe that I have used it in the past to self-medicate. I do suffer from depression and anxiety.

Then my mother passed away when I was 13 on September 27. Due to this, September has always been a difficult month for me. This year will be the 20-year anniversary of her death. I believe that my anxiety comes from my father.

I completed my community service at a Red Cross working in their homeless shelter. Majority of my duties involved giving homeless individuals breathalyzers at the entrance. During this time, I was completing my bachelor’s degree in Psychology. After I completed my mandated community service, I volunteered at Crisis House in El Cajon. A few months later, the organization hired me as a social worker for the Rapid Rehousing for Veteran Families program. My duties involved helping homeless families find low income housing. During this time, I was in school working on my Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy Degree. After 2 years passed, I realized I did not want to spend my life looking for resources that were not there. I wanted to do more. I decided to volunteer at McAlister Institute North Coastal Teen Recovery Center. I was hired as a SUD counselor 3 weeks later. I was then “promoted” to Mental Health Clinician when I graduated. I been at McAlister for 3 years now and I plan to do my internship there.

I also started to develop my card game- Douglairian Therapy: The first and only mental health trading card game. After I completed my Masters, I decided that the only way I can change this world {stigma} is with my card game.

Update 4/10/2023:

So I have not updated this since I first wrote it, a few years ago. So much has happened since then. I became licensed as a LMFT in 2021. That was a rough road but I learned so much from it. I started my PsyD in 2018ish. I plan to complete my PsyD fall of 2024. I already completed the experimental part of my dissertation. I tested to see if my game would have an effect on stigma. The results were in my favor. I will publish it after I complete it.

This year I am able to have supervisees!
